Dear iPhone game developers:

If your game punishes me for not paying attention to it, for instance by allowing items I've built or ordered to go stale if not handled in a certain time frame, I will not play it. I can't afford to be held hostage to a phone game. (I'm looking at you, Tiny Zoo.)

Also, if your in-game currency is nearly impossible to obtain other than laying down hard money, to the equivalent of tens of dollars for a single item, I will not play it, because I am not insane. (I'm looking at you again, Tiny Zoo.)

Love, me

Yeah, there was some aquarium game that killed your fish if you didn't log in every day, which made me quit right quick.

I looked at a couple of nigh-identical aquarium games, and they were both like that. Also some sort of gardening game. I play games on my schedule, not theirs...

Exactly! It really destroys the fun factor -- if you're obligated to do it, it's no longer fun!

Sad to say, but the developers of these games truly do not give a damn.

They set out with malice aforethought to make games for idiots and suckers. Their target market is very consciously idiots and suckers. And they know quite well that only idiots and suckers play their games.

It's kind of a shame, though, because except for those two objections, Tiny Zoo is a clever little game. I guess that's how they try to reel in the idiots and suckers -- make it enjoyable except for the time and money aspects.

Fortunately there are plenty of games out there that don't suffer from those flaws!
