I didn't particularly have plans for tonight... but buying a new extension ladder and going 20 feet up a neighbor's tree to rescue a cat was definitely not on the agenda.

When we first moved into our new home, I sat up one night and said "where's Lilith?

That night I climbed a 12 foot ladder, shimmied another 5 or so feet up into my neighbor's pine tree and retrieved my coonlet. She has such a tiny meow that I can only think I must have heard it through the open bedroom window. There as sap all over me and the cat.

Fun times.

Yeah, Philly's lucky we went looking for him at all -- but he usually comes in for the night around sunset, so when he was AWOL, I called for him in the back yard, and happily the tree he was stuck in was close enough to hear his meow. Took us a while to track him down exactly. He was way the heck up there. And even though I could get close enough to touch him, he wouldn't let me grab him, so I went back up with his cat carrier (whose top opens) and he stepped into that.

Heh, my wife bought me ribs from the Rib House to reward me for my "heroism." I even have some left for lunch today!

SWEET! See, good deeds DO pay off sometimes. Especially if an animal is involved.
